Insalata Caprese

Looking for a more balanced salad to start a meal? We have some Italian food trending on the blog - Viva Italia! Often we think of heavy pastas and meats, but some of the best Italian food has light, fresh ingredients. Enjoy this tomato and mozzarella salad that stories say originated from Capri!

Serving size: This recipe makes 1 serving 

Macronutrient Balance: 12g Protein / 15g Fat / 10g Carbohydrate


  • 1.5 medium Sliced Beefsteak or other Tomato

    • 2 oz Fresh Mozzarella, sliced

    • 1.5 Tbsp Fresh Basil, chopped or sliced (or whole if you prefer)

    • 1 tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    • 1 tsp Balsamic Vinegar

    • 1/4 tsp Coarse Kosher Salt

    • Dash of Freshly Cracked Black Pepper


  1. Slice tomatoes and mozzarella

  2. Layer tomatoes on plate, and sprinkle salt directly on tomatoes

  3. Top tomato slices with cheese, and cracked black pepper

  4. Drizzle all with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

  5. Top with basil and buon appetito!
